Still Heads in August

Two heads laid side by side and facing opposite ways, in flowered rubber bathing caps. Photographed at the artist's house in North Salem, New York. The caps came from a small family-run shop in Greenwich, Connecticut, bought years before that stretch of coast became what it is now.

Still Heads in August was featured in The New York Times Arts & Leisure section in 1996, credited alongside a photograph by Harry Callahan.
